Password: Metastasize

Kurtz -

Trial = Adversity = Hardship. These were some of the Passwords we played last night at Mastermind's childhood home, where I had $10,000 in hand and lost it going for $25,000. Oh, what money that could have bought! Mastermind's slythery roomie was there, very goatish, of course. A highlight of the night came from these clues from May Green.......War...Big...Bullet. Can you guess what she was getting at?

The mood of levity spread over unspoken somberness. Mastermind metastasized malignantly. Location: liver. Treatment: Trial Tests. Unfavorable news indeed. As the Mrs. and I returned home, we felt a mixture of reverence, fear,  gratitude, and confidence. Mastermind is a human of strength and resourcefulness, and we are grateful to be close to her. Think kindly on her as well, Kurtz.

  1. Marlowe,

I fear that you must be drawing near, as I felt your presence most keenly yesterday. I even wondered if perhaps I was relinquishing my ability to discern between the absolute and the intricacies of my imagination, such was the conviction of my apparent hallucination.

It happened yesterday. I was in that vast field engaging in a native competition of sorts. The atmosphere was laden with memories of previous such battles, and just to stand there I swore that I heard your very voice, echoing from the edge of the field. Ordering. Commanding. Demanding even. Option right. Startled, I turned, expecting that you had at last achieved the object of your tortured quest. But I instead found myself alone.

It was but moments later, as I was darting between obstacles like a silver monkey, the dermis of swine clutched close, that I again sensed your presence. The visages of my adversaries transformed into yours, and I was no longer merely evading them, but struggling mightily to break free of your hawkish hands. As I was finally brought to a halt, my flags of glory surrendered, I came again to my senses, and your familiar face dissolved back into the faces of strangers.

It would not be entirely accurate to claim that you were the only person envisioned on that field. Mastermind’s presence permeated my every sense, and instilled the play with a sorrowful aura. As you know, Mastermind has been on my mind quite often of late, so such an occurrence was not wholly unexpected.

As for your mention of Mastermind, I am quite pained by the recent news. At times it is sharp and insistent, at other times, it is a sly fog. But I am comforted knowing that she is in your good and gentle company.
